Iain, originally from Dundee in Scotland, has always had a passion for playing both cornet and trumpet. Iain is the principal cornet player with <a title=\"Leyland Band\" href=\"http:\/\/www.leylandband.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leyland Band.<\/a> He is also in demand as a brass teacher, including tutoring at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nybbgb.org.uk\/\">National Youth Brass Band<\/a> and (previously) National Youth Brass Band of Scotland Summer courses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1153 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brassnet.co.uk\/idc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/iain-home-page.jpg\" alt=\"Image of Iain from Classics album recording\" width=\"205\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"Oobj64\">\n<p>Born in 1986, by the age of seventeen, Iain had already gained a second performing diploma with distinction and played principal cornet for several brass bands including\u00a0Boness and Carriden Band,\u00a0Clackmannan &amp; District Brass Band, Tullis Russell Mills Band and\u00a0Dundee Instrumental Band. He also holds a B.A. (Hons) degree in Music as well as an M.A. in Music Performance from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.salford.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Salford University.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Iain has travelled internationally giving master classes and appearing as both guest soloist and conductor with various bands. He has also spent several years as principal cornet of <a href=\"https:\/\/grimethorpeband.co.uk\/\">Grimethorpe Colliery Band<\/a>. Earlier appointments as a principal cornet player have been with the <a title=\"Fairey Geneva Band\" href=\"http:\/\/www.faireyband.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fairey Band<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sellersinternationalband.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0Sellers International Band<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0YBS Band\u00a0(now <a title=\"Hammonds\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hammondsband.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hammonds Saltaire<\/a>), as well as\u00a0standing in at\u00a0<a title=\"Carlton Main\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carltonmain.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band<\/a>\u00a0for the 2006 Yorkshire regional championship while Kirsty Abbots was on maternity leave. Before leaving Scotland to attend university, Iain played for\u00a0<a title=\"Kinneil\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kinneilband.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Unison Kinneil Band<\/a>\u00a0based in Bo&#8217;ness.<\/p>\n<p>During his early years as a cornet player, Iain\u00a0also played repiano cornet with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davido.freeserve.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bon Accord Silver Band<\/a>\u00a0(Aberdeen) and the Scottish Co-op bands as well as being a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) main band since the age of eleven.
