While visiting friends at Atlantic Brass Band in New Jersey, USA, I had the opportunity to pay a visit to Bayonne, where my grandfather had been born back in 1917. My great-grandparents had emigrated there some time before the start of the first world war, but returned to Scotland several years later. The picture below shows me standing by a “Welcome to Bayonne” sign on what turned out to be a surprisingly snowy October day.
